REQUIRMENTS FOR CATS AND DOGS ENTERING THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

1) Your pets must be microchipped

2) Your pet will need to be up-to-date with their annual vaccinations:

Dogs: canine distemper virus (cdv), canine parvo virus, infectious canine hepatitis and leptospirosis

Cats : rabies, feline pan leukcopenia (fpv), feline rhinotrachitics (fhv-1), feline calicivirus

3) You will need to apply for an import permit from the department of Animal Health, Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries, PO Box 159, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

4) You will also need an export health certificate from your local authority. The certificate will be sent to the vet of your choice, which will need to be an LVI (local veterinary inspector) vet.

5) You will need to sign a declaration stating the breed of your pet and the age. The pet will need to be over 4 months old.

6) Pets will need to be vaccinated for rabies no less than 30 days but no more than 12 months prior to the date of export. The pet must be 3 months old before being vaccinated. Vaccination records will need to travel with the pet. The initial vaccination against rabies must be carried out more than 21 days prior to export. Dogs only: dogs need to be blood tested for babesia within 15 days of export.

7) Your pet will need to be treated within 48 hours of departure for tick & echinococcus treatments. Your pet will also need to have a clinical examination to show that your pet is fit to travel- this can be done at the time of tick and echinococcus treatments.

8) There will be a charge upon arrival of 200 dirham per animal. The ministry will only accept payment through electronic-dirham card (e-dhs card) you can obtain one of these from any bank or post office located in UAE.

9) The following breeds or types of dogs are prohibited to be imported into UAE:

• PIT BULL TERRIER OR AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER

• JAPANESE TOSA (TOSA INU; TOSA FIGHTING DOG).

• ARGENTINIAN FIGHTING DOG (DOGO ARGENTINO; ARGENTINIAN MASTIFF).

• BRAZILIAN FIGHTING DOG (FILA BRASILEINO; BRAZILIAN MASTIFF).

• CROSS BREEDS WITH EXTRACT OF THE ABOVE LISTED BREEDS.

• SALUKI AND GREYHOUND.

• WOLF DOG HYBRID (ANY DOG MIXED WITH A WOLF).
